It was a gorgeous, crisp Fall morning and I was sitting outside, drinking my morning coffee and reading, basking in the warm sunshine on my face. My favorite way to start the day! As I was sitting there, the question, “What is my source of life?” suddenly popped into my head. I began to think about where do I tend to go to for my happiness, energy, and fulfillment?

There are a million things we run to for satisfaction.  Shopping, doom scrolling, eating, human validation, work, fitness, and substances to name a few. For me, the traps I often fall into are shopping,  snacking, doom scrolling and seeking human validation. However, they  never really satisfy. They always leave me empty and only seem to be a counterfeit source of life.

Have you ever noticed how plants always grow toward the direction of the sun? We have some indoor plants and have to rotate them regularly because the side that’s next to the window  reaches towards the sun making the plant  grow lopsided.  That’s because the sun is their source of life! It  provides energy for photosynthesis without which the plant would grow sick and eventually die. It needs the sun to be healthy and flourish.

Human beings have the same need. We need to be connected to Jesus,  our source of life, to flourish. God created us and sustains us, and it’s foolish to go to created things for life instead of the Creator. Yet, we all have that tendency.

There’s a really cool verse in John 15 that talks about staying connected to our life source. Jesus essentially says if we remain close to Him, we will bear fruit. In other words, we will flourish if we are connected to Him.

I love how simple it is! All the plant has to do is be in the sun to get its energy. All we have to do is stay close to Jesus. We don’t have to strive, to check all the boxes, or to be good enough. It’s all about relationship with Him.

He is our source of life!

And He’s so good!! Life with Him is the best adventure.

Apart from Him we are depleted, exhausted and feel dead inside. But with Him, we become truly alive, thriving, and fulfilled.

What is your source of life today?
