Flourishing.
An intriguing word that’s been on my mind a lot recently.
What does it mean to flourish?
How do I live a flourishing life? Is that even possible?!
What does flourishing look like in my relationship with God, in my home, in my mental/emotional life, in my friendships?
These are the questions I’ve been asking myself and have been on a journey to discover.
Jesus seemed to think that life is possible. He said, “I have come that you might have life, and live life abundantly.” John 10:10
One thing is clear; it’s not achieved by trying harder, being a nice person, pushing ourselves to our limits, or acting super spiritual. Being super real; this is definitely my tendency! Rather, it’s a gift God wants to give us as we come to Him and depend on Him as our source of life.
That doesn’t mean we sit around and don’t take action waiting on God to do everything. It DOES mean drawing our strength, wisdom, joy, peace, etc. from Him as we work hard, doing the things we are called to do. Just like an apple branch has to be connected to the apple tree to bear apples we have to be connected to the life of God.
God isn’t stingy, cruel, or distant. He desires to come close to us. He’s a good Father who gives generously more than we need. He wants to give us an abundant, thriving life.
Notice I didn’t say an easy, comfortable life, but a fruitful, abundant, flourishing life.
I’m not satisfied living a mediocre, unfulfilled, unfruitful life. I want to live a life that’s full of purpose, deep connection, inner peace, abundant joy, unshakable faith, and love. I want to experience the life Jesus promised.
What about you? You in?
